Szarekh, the Silent King

Szarekh, the Silent King, is a central character in the fictional universe of Warhammer 40,000, particularly associated with the Necron faction. He was once the last in the line of Silent Kings, the rulers of the ancient and powerful Necron civilization. Szarekh played a pivotal role in the biotransference process that transformed the Necrontyr into the soulless, metallic Necrons, in an alliance with the enigmatic and powerful star gods known as the C’tan.

Realizing the horror of what his people had become and regretting his deal with the C’tan, Szarekh ultimately betrayed and shattered the star gods, scattering their shards across the galaxy. After this, he abdicated his throne and exiled himself into the intergalactic void. He wandered the stars for millions of years, observing the evolution of the galaxy and the rise of younger races, including humanity.

The return of Szarekh marks a significant shift in the Warhammer 40,000 narrative, as he comes back to reassert control over the Necron dynasties and to guide them against common threats, notably the Tyranids, who pose a danger to all life in the galaxy.

His character is rich with themes of regret, the burden of leadership, and the quest for redemption, making him a complex and interesting figure within the Warhammer 40,000 lore.
