Ramand Kiam is a significant figure among the Thousand Sons, one of the most storied and tragic Traitor Legions in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Once a proud Legionnaire of the XV Legion, Kiam’s journey is inseparable from the psychic might and eventual fall of his Legion into the grasp of Tzeentch, the Chaos God of Change and Sorcery. Like many Thousand Sons, Kiam was a powerful psyker, trained in the arcane arts on Prospero under the tutelage of Magnus the Red, their Primarch. He exemplified the scholarly pursuit of knowledge that defined the Thousand Sons, constantly searching for new ways to harness the power of the Warp and push the boundaries of understanding.
As with many of his brothers, Kiam’s fate was sealed during the events of the Horus Heresy, when the Legion was accused of sorcery and proscribed by the Emperor. Despite their loyalist intentions, the Thousand Sons were cast out and ultimately devastated during the burning of Prospero, their homeworld, at the hands of the Space Wolves. In the wake of this tragedy, Kiam, alongside the remnants of his Legion, sought refuge in the Warp, where Magnus the Red made a pact with Tzeentch. Ramand Kiam was one of those who embraced this new destiny, ascending into the ranks of Tzeentch’s chosen sorcerers. Under the influence of the Changer of Ways, Kiam’s abilities were amplified, but his soul was forever bound to the twisting schemes of Chaos.
Now a Rubric Marine, Kiam’s body was preserved but hollowed out due to the casting of the Rubric of Ahriman, the infamous spell that saved the Legion from mutation but transformed most of the Thousand Sons into dust-filled automatons. Kiam’s mind and essence may remain intact, enabling him to still channel powerful sorcery, but his body is no longer truly his. Instead, he is encased in ornate power armor, a silent witness to the folly of his Legion’s thirst for knowledge. As one of the many Rubricae, Kiam’s fate is to serve eternally as a pawn of Tzeentch, a twisted reflection of what was once a proud and intellectual warrior of the Imperium. His existence is now bound by sorcery, power, and the ever-changing schemes of the dark gods.
