The Necrons, one of the most ancient and enigmatic races in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, have roots that trace back over 60 million years to the time of the War in Heaven. Originally a mortal species known as the Necrontyr, they suffered from short lifespans and a bleak existence under a dying sun. Driven by a desire for immortality, they made a dark pact with the C’tan, god-like star entities. The Necrontyr were transformed into the undying Necrons, their consciousnesses transferred into robotic bodies, granting them eternal life but at the cost of their souls and individuality. The C’tan manipulated the Necrons for their own purposes until the Necrons eventually rebelled, shattering the C’tan into shards.

Necrons are characterized by their skeletal, metallic appearance, and their advanced technology, which is far beyond that of most other races in the galaxy. They utilize weapons that can disintegrate matter at the molecular level, and their constructs, such as Monoliths and Canoptek units, display a mastery of anti-gravity and self-repair mechanisms. Their armies are led by powerful Overlords and Crypteks, who wield arcane sciences to devastating effect. Despite their technological prowess, the Necrons often adhere to a strict hierarchical structure reminiscent of their ancient dynasties, with a focus on regaining their former glory and reclaiming the galaxy from the younger races.

The Necrons’ return from their eons-long stasis is a significant threat to the galaxy. As they awaken, they seek to rebuild their ancient empires and eradicate any who stand in their way. This resurgence poses a dire challenge to the Imperium of Man, the Eldar, and other factions. The Necrons’ motivation is not just conquest but the restoration of their lost grandeur and the eradication of the perceived impurities that have proliferated in their absence. Their silent, methodical approach to warfare and their nearly indestructible nature make them one of the most formidable and feared forces in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
