Abaddon the Despoiler, born Ezekyle Abaddon, began his journey as a loyal warrior of the Luna Wolves, later known as the Sons of Horus. As the first Captain of the First Company, he served as a trusted lieutenant to Horus, the Primarch of the legion. During the Great Crusade, Abaddon was renowned for his martial prowess and unwavering loyalty to Horus. When the galaxy-spanning civil war known as the Horus Heresy erupted, Abaddon stood at Horus’s side, becoming one of his most ardent supporters in the rebellion against the Emperor of Mankind. His ferocity and tactical brilliance were instrumental in the traitors’ efforts, although the Heresy ultimately ended in defeat with Horus’s death.
Transformation and the Rise of the Black Legion
After the failure of the Horus Heresy, Abaddon refused to accept his master’s fate as final. In the aftermath, he rallied the shattered remnants of the Sons of Horus and led them into the Eye of Terror, a warp-infused realm of Chaos. Rejecting the shame of his fallen legion, Abaddon renamed them the Black Legion, erasing their ties to Horus’s failure and forging them into a force united under his iron will. Over millennia, he rose to become the Warmaster of Chaos, a title once held by Horus, solidifying his authority over the Chaos Space Marines and gaining the favor of the Chaos Gods.
