Angron's Origins
Angron is one of the twenty Primarchs created by the Emperor of Mankind, envisioned as a superhuman warrior and leader to guide humanity in the Emperor’s grand design. However, unlike some of his brothers who were raised in noble societies, Angron’s fate was far darker. He was cast onto the harsh world of Nuceria, where his life was one of constant brutality and survival. This grim beginning set the stage for his transformation into one of the most feared figures in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
Life on Nuceria
On Nuceria, Angron was enslaved and forced to fight in gladiatorial arenas, enduring unimaginable hardship. He was implanted with the Butcher’s Nails, a brutal form of psycho-surgery that amplified his aggression while inflicting constant, agonizing pain. Despite this torment, Angron became a champion in the arenas, gaining the admiration of his fellow slaves. Eventually, he led a rebellion against his captors, but his efforts were doomed to fail. When the Emperor arrived to claim him, Angron refused to abandon his comrades, yet the Emperor forcibly teleported him away, leaving his rebellion to collapse in a bloody massacre.
Leader of the World Eaters
After his unwilling ascension to Primarch of the XII Legion, the War Hounds, Angron renamed them the World Eaters. Reflecting his own torment, he demanded his warriors undergo implantation with the Butcher’s Nails, sacrificing their mental stability for increased ferocity. Under Angron’s leadership, the World Eaters became infamous for their relentless brutality, a trait that only deepened during the Horus Heresy. When Horus declared rebellion against the Emperor, Angron eagerly joined, his legion becoming a vanguard of bloodshed and savagery in the galaxy-spanning conflict.
