Ahriman, also known as Ahzek Ahriman, is one of the most infamous figures in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, renowned for his brilliance, ambition, and tragic fall. As the Chief Librarian of the Thousand Sons Legion, he was once a loyal servant of the Emperor and a master of psychic powers. Born on the world of Prospero, Ahriman was shaped by the culture of intellectual and arcane pursuits fostered by his Primarch, Magnus the Red. During the Great Crusade, he was one of Magnus’s most trusted advisors, revered for his mastery of sorcery and his unwavering commitment to the pursuit of knowledge.
The Tragedy of the Thousand Sons
Ahriman’s fate became intertwined with the catastrophic events surrounding the Thousand Sons Legion. The Legion’s reliance on psychic powers led to their censure by the Emperor and their eventual corruption by Chaos. When the Space Wolves attacked Prospero during the Horus Heresy, Ahriman fought valiantly alongside his brethren to defend their home world, but the Thousand Sons were ultimately driven to the brink of destruction. These events marked the Legion's fall into the service of Tzeentch, the Chaos God of change and sorcery, a fate Ahriman embraced reluctantly as he sought to save his Legion from annihilation.
The Rubric of Ahriman
Ahriman’s defining moment came after the Thousand Sons' escape into the Eye of Terror. As their exposure to the Warp deepened, many of the Legion’s warriors began to suffer from uncontrollable mutations. In a desperate bid to halt this degeneration, Ahriman devised the Rubric of Ahriman, a powerful spell intended to stabilize the Legion. While the spell succeeded in halting the mutations, it came at a terrible cost: the majority of the Thousand Sons were transformed into mindless automatons, their souls trapped within their power armor. This act, though well-intentioned, earned Ahriman the wrath of Magnus and saw him e
